I have looked at the Project Run and Play site off and on for months. I have looked at the themes and I usually think "oh I am totally going to do that next week." Then, of course, I promptly forget about it. I mean to participate, I want to participate but I never have before.
However, I read on Monday that this week was boys week and that was perfect since Big Brother had just asked me to make him a pair of jeans and a St. Patrick's Day sweatshirt. All I would have to do was actually finish them, take pictures and write this blog post. Pfft. I can do that (let's just ignore the fact that it is now Friday and I am just blogging it).
First I made the jeans. I use my own pattern for pants but if you are looking for a good tutorial Dana's basic pants is very good. Then because we live in this ridiculously cold area I decided to line them with flannel in order to add some extra warmth. In order to make flannel lined pants I cut the flannel pants first in Big Brother's size. Then I cut the denim in a half size bigger so that they would comfortably go over the flannel. I put the flannel legs together and then the denim. Then placing the flannel inside the denim I hemmed the bottom and added the waistband. As you can see they look great and my boy says they are very comfortable - win!!
Next came the St. Patrick's Day hoodie. He specifically wanted a hoodie that zips up and he wanted a shamrock appliqued on the front. So, I used the iMke hooded sweatshirt pattern from the Sewing Clothes Kids Love book and then I went and changed almost everything about it. :) First I opened up the front so that it was a zip up instead of pull over hoodie. Then I added front pockets on either side of the zipper. I appliqued a shamrock on the left chest. I also added arm cuffs and a bottom cuff of ribbed knit. Again a happy boy and that makes me so happy.
I love that he likes when I make things for him. I keep expecting him to outgrow me making things for him. He is eight after all. Next week's theme over at Project Run and Play is Love Is In the Air and I am definitely planning on trying for a link up post again next week. :)

What a fabulous outfit that will definitely be worn and loved many times! I have been thinking about lining pants, inspiring to hear it wasn't a difficult pain. :)
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't difficult at all. I've made them before and not made the outer layer bigger but I find thy look and feel more comfortable when I do. Have fun!
DeleteFlannel lined pants are the best for when it's cold outside! You can tell how happy he is with his new clothes.:)
