I generally do not remember my dreams. I know that I must have them because people do but otherwise say that I never dream. I know some people put a lot of stock into the things that happen in their dreams. The rare occasions that I do have dreams they don't seem to have any meaning. Other then maybe my brain's way of telling me that I am insane.
Last night I dreamt that Michael stole an elephant from the zoo and rode on it to his parents house. His parents who live five hours away. Then he expected them to hide it. The elephant. In their backyard. Actually, come to think of it the backyard of their old house. And when he got home we had a discussion about how the zoo would most likely not know that it was him who had called about the tiger.
Yup, insane. No clue what that means. None at all. I don't know what he said when he called about the tiger or how in the world he thought his parents would hide the elephant. So, I generally do not put any stock into the meaning behind dreams. I think dream analysis is a bit odd.
The thing is, though, Mickey has nightmares. She has nightmares of people coming into her room and trying to take her. People coming into her room and trying to eat her. Monsters coming out of her closet. She wakes up crying. Every day. Most nights more then once. She screams out for Mommy and Daddy to come get her. And we do. One of us goes every time. We bring her to out bed once we are sleeping. We lie down with her and stay until she is asleep. But the nightmares do not stop. Sometimes we can keep them at bay for a few weeks. Sometimes they come so frequently that she cannot sleep in her own bed for more then an hour or two. The thing I am left wondering is do these dreams mean something? What am I missing? There must be something that is causing these dreams.
And so my Aloha Friday question for you this week is do you think dreams have meanings?
Thanks for visiting me at Create With Joy! I was not familiar with RAD until I visited you and read your post on it. I hope you'll write a Friendship Friday post and link up about it to spread awareness among my readers!
ReplyDeleteI DO believe that there is meaning in dreams and I had a very significant one this week - but sometimes, dreams are just dreams. Is Mickey adopted? (asking because of the tab at the top of your blog) If so, maybe the nightmares have significance from the time before she came to live with you... if so, maybe speaking with a professional would be helpful. I hope that her nightmares stop. I know that must be disconcerting for everyone!
Have a great weekend and I look forward to reading more of your blog!

No, Mickey is our biological daughter. I hope they stop too. I hate hearing her cries of fear every night. My poor girl.
DeleteThanks for stopping by. I will be stopping by to check out Friendship Friday soon.
I often wonder that myself. It seems to me that a lot of times it is just an accumulation of bits and pieces of things jumbled up from things I have done recently or thought about. I do think sometimes there are fears or "replaying" of things that may come up in our dreams. All four of mine have gone through stages where they had more scary dreams at certain ages. Some children suffer from night terrors as well which are more severe. I know stress can make these worse. My 6 year old is the most prone to bad dreams and she is also the most prone of my 4 to being anxious and stressed easily. Do you use homeopathic remedies at all? That might be helpful. A Naturopath might be able to help you find the right remedy to help calm. I know from experience what a hard issue this can be to deal with. We worry so much what can be the trigger of it all and then everyone is loosing sleep which compounds everything. Good luck with this. I know from reading your blog you have a LOT on your plate. You are an encouragement to me as you battle through. (Hugs)
ReplyDeleteI think dreams may have something to do with what's going on in our lives or something that we perhaps experienced or watched in a film or on televison. I know that heavy drugs after surgery (vicodin) will give me terrible nightmares. =/
ReplyDeleteI definitely believe they have meanings, but not sure what they are. If you asked me I'd only be guessing. Sorry. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour guess would be as good as mine as to what my husband stealing an elephant from the zoo means. :)
DeleteSome definitely have meaning, but some are just our brains way of giving us a good laugh.
ReplyDeleteHere's My Question
They could be a reflection of what's going on in your mind.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

I believe dreams have meaning in that they are our mind's way of working things out.
ReplyDeleteYes there are dreams that tells us when things are going to happen, things happening that we need to deal with and so on and so forth. Yes they do have meanings.
ReplyDeleteThere are somethat are just that, dreams.
If you could write down all that is happening and as much as you know at school and wherever else she goes and see if you can decipher something.
Once I had a dream that my cousin was being murdered in a warehouse. I knew how he got shot and how many times and his last words.
I was in the US.
I called my mom in the Caribbean and I told her about my dream.
She is shocked.
She tells me that my sister (we didn't grow up together) has the very exact dream.
I freak.
Two days later they found our cousin just like that. Same warehouse, same bullet wounds etc.
So dreams ...they all depend on what they are trying to clarify or say or change.
I think many of them do have meaning. They are our mind's way of dealing with everything that we deal with (or don't want to deal with) on a daily basis. I remember hearing someone say it is how we work things out in our subconscious.
ReplyDeleteI think they do have meaning, but I rarely remember my dreams.
