Hubby And Babywearing Do Not Mix

Hubby says that Ergo needs to make a model with a guitar strap attachment.

Hubby has a difficult time with the whole babywearing concept. He feels uncomfortable. He's embarrassed. He feels like he is backpacking and, therefore, out of place in normal everyday activities.

As you know, we had a Snugli when Big Brother was a baby. Hubby used it once. He felt like Big Brother was going to fall right out of it. So he always had at least one hand on Big Brother and that pretty much made the Snugli useless.

When Big Sister came around, I used the Snugli a whole bunch. It was all I had and she wanted to be held (I found it uncomfortable). I distinctly remember Hubby trying it once while we were cleaning and him complaining that he felt like she was wobbly. So, we scraped that. Then I got my Moby. You can see above what happened when he tried to use that. :)

But, as time went on, I realized that I also wanted something that I could use to put Big Sister on my back. I had tried the Moby with a back carry, but I could never get the hang of it. And so, we bought an Ergo. Immediately, I loved it. So, I told Hubby to give it a try and he liked it... sort of. He says it is easy to use - to get on and off. It is comfortable and Big Sister LOVES it. And still, Hubby feels weird wearing her.

Today, Hubby spent the afternoon with Big Sister so I could volunteer in Big Brother's class. In preparation, we fitted the Ergo to him last night. He did use it. In fact, right away, he took her and put her in it while he was making lunch. Still, he felt really uncomfortable - like he was out of place; Like everyone was staring at him. Later, while he was perfoming, singing for the kids at work, he tried to put her in it again... and he tried... and tried. But my poor Hubby could not figure out how to get her in and get the guitar strap on - or vice versa. So, like I said, he needs one with a guitar strap attachment. :) I think I have it figured out; How to get her in and the strap and all. So, if I get it right next week, I will most likely have pictures of him babywearing and singing...

  3. Oh TOO funny! My hubby wears the Mei Tai I made, but I always have to tie it for him. He doesn't seem to feel silly...but, then again, he wears skinny bike shorts when he goes mountain biking...so I guess he's used to looking goofy :)

  4. what a funny picture!!!! my husband feels the same way - he is not comfortable wearing our kids. But when I need a break, he loves to carry them (with his arms of course) so I really can't complain :)

  5. My dh wore the Moby the other day for the first time. I had to put it on him, he found the directions confusing, but he did wear the baby in it for about an hour. He refuses to wear it in public though. His exact words were "I'm not wearing that thing outside of the house!" HA!

  7. LOL at the guitar strap!!! I love it!! DH tried a ring sling a couple of times, but once DD got older/bigger he preferred a regular backpack carrier.

  8. The pictures looks a bit scary, but funny. At least he is tryin.. I don't think my dh would. He might doo a backpack carrier and he used the snugli once or twice, but I don't think he would do a wrap.

  11. My husband uses my ring sling fairly often, even in public, but he likes the Baby Bjorn the best. Speaking of adding a guitar strap, he wears the baby while he plays Rock Band and they both love it! I took a picture and he made it his Facebook profile pic :)
