Twilight

So, for this Things That I Love Thursday I want to talk about my love of reading. See I really love to read. When I get engrossed in a book I never really want to come out of it. I get completely lost in the world the author creates and I feel happy there. I miss my "friends" when I put the book down. I tend to get obsessive about things like that. It is not just reading but other things are not as difficult to tear me away from. The down side to this obsession I have with reading is that when I finish a book (or set of books) it is easy enough for me to walk away and not read for awhile. I get lost looking for what to read next and it can be a week or more before I find something. Recently I have gone through a rather long reading slump and to some degree I even forgot how much I enjoyed reading.

Until my sister sent me home from my vacation with her copy of Twilight. I started it on Monday July 6th. I read and read and read. I finished it on Tuesday the 7th. I really really enjoyed it. Was it the best book I have ever read? No. Not at all. But it was so fun to read. I could feel the nervousness of standing in that clearing with Edward. I could see him in my mind (and the movie really did not do him justice). I was totally and completely engrossed in the world of vampires.

When I finished it I did something a little silly. I read the first chapter of New Moon that is included in the back of the book. Why was that silly? Because I was now dying to know what came next. So, on Wednesday I went right out and bought the rest of the books. Yes, that is right I bought all three of the others. And I read all of them. I finished Breaking Dawn on Monday the 13th. Yes, I read all four of them in eight days.

I cannot really separate them for you. I have trouble remembering which things happened in which book sometimes. I can only tell you what I think about the series. And over all I really liked the series. I am not sure that I LOVE the ending. But I don't know what I wanted from the series or where I would have liked it to end. I do have to say that my favorite character in the whole series might just be Jacob. I really like him and every time he and Bella had one of their overly dramatic scenes I was in tears. Yes, the books made me cry. But I cry easily so that may not be such an amazing feet.

In truth I am a little sad that the books are over. I really enjoyed them. I liked being engrossed in the world of vampires, werewolves. secret societies and more. I have no real desire to read the books again mind you, but if there were another one I would read it. My MIL told Hubby that she knew "all the kids" were into the Twilight series and I had to laugh. I don't know if that is an insult because I was reading this series that is obviously meant for people much younger than me. Or a compliment meaning that I am still young enough to be considered a kid. Either way I enjoyed the series and am very glad that I took the book because it brought me back to my love of reading. And last week I even got on my treadmill again because I was reading (I read and walk). I have slacked this week but I am making it my priority to get back on today.

  3. ohoh oh & I am SO glad you said the movie did Edward no justice I totally agree! I don't think Edward (in the movie) is hot at all! But hey the movie made Jacob hot IMO of course :P

  4. I also really enjoyed the books. Of course I am jealous that you were able to read them all in a row. I had to wait for each one to be released. No, the ending was not exactly what I wanted. Of course, I am not sure there ever would have been a perfect way to end the series. I thought Twilight was a "eh" movie. The acting by the actors playing Bella and Edward were horrible. It later came out that they had never read the books before taking the parts. Not smart.

  5. Want to hear something funny? I just finished the last book in the series last night...and I had started the first book on Monday. So, we are both fast readers :o)

I LOVED the series in general, but: by the third book, Bellas was starting to get really annoying. I like her much better in the fourth book, though. Also, I'm a little dissapointed that the series was only four books long. I liked how it ended, just wanted more than that.

  6. I really liked the books too! I've actually read them twice since Christmas. I got so engrossed in them the first time I couldn't put them down. I think I finished the series in less than a week. It was lots of late nights reading. It's just a fun series of books. Like you, I thought the movie was just barely so so. I'm really hoping the next one lives up to the hype.

  7. I started reading your post and I could have written the same thing.

I suggest reading the Twilight series again. The first time I read it so fast, I wanted to reread to take it all in again. Ok, and I'm a bit obsessed.

But, please don't say it is true that you are on Team Jacob!

  9. I totally agree with you about Edward in the movie and the ending. My husband, BIL and I all agree that they ending was kinda anti-climatic, but yet we can't figure out how it could have been better either. I am currently reading the books again - I originally borrowed them from my BIL and my husband bought me the set for my birthday. They are just as good the second time around!!

  11. i really loved reading the series too. it was making me all antsy waiting for breaking dawn to be released. i admit i was ever so slightly disappointed in it on a lot of levels, but ironically i finished reading it thinking questionable things about procreation just in time to get all preggo again, lol!
i will probably read the series again some time when i'm bored off my bottom, kinda like harry potter.
that said, stephanie meyers wrote another great book called "the host" and i highly recommend it. kk? k.
