Summer Bedtime?

Well, it is Aloha Friday time! In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that people take it easy and look forward to the weekend (sound familiar?). So, we take it easy on Friday blog posts by sticking to just one quick question that surfers-by can answer with just a quick response themselves. This week's question is:

Do you put your kids to bed later during the summer?

Me: I do but not on purpose. We don't actually have a later bedtime set, it is just that we get so busy doing all kinds of fun summer stuff that we completely lose track of the time. So, they go to bed late. Luckily, for me, they do sleep later as well. I love it. I love summer and all the fun things we get to do. I never want to miss one second of summer fun.

  1. Same thing here. We do not purposely put them to bed later, but it seems to happen naturally. The sun setting so late just changes all of our clocks.

  2. Yes, I let my 7 and 9 year old stay up about an 1-1.5 hours later than their normal bedtime.

  6. We are less strict with bed time but we still aim for the same bedtime routine. Because it is still light out we do allow them to read or write in their journals in their bed until it gets too dark to see.

  7. Mine is all grown up, but when she was little, yes we did. It stays light later and all her friends were still out playing. It seemed cruel to me to make her go to bed early. It was summer!!

  11. Yes...But closer to school time it's back to the bed time routine.

  12. Yes, it's really hard to put them to bed at the same time during the school year because it stays so light outside when it's their bedtime. They usually go to bed an hour later during the summer. Sometimes later. :)

  13. Yes. It is hard keeping to a schedule when it is summer after all...And they do get to sleep in, which gives me some extra alone time to work!

  14. Ours are grown up but yes, summertime they went to bed later and slept in later too!

  15. In the summer, the girls go to sleep between 8:30 and 9.

  16. My son has always fallen asleep pretty early, regardless of the season. My daughter must be more affected by the light changes, because she's been going to bed much later recently. She's tucked in the same time as usual, but refuses to go to sleep for at least an hour after she's supposed to be snoozing. I don't know how a 3 year old can stay up so late!

  17. My kids are pretty well grown and can decide for themselves now. When they were young they would usually poop out from a busy day at a reasonable hour.

  18. We have a pretty late bedtime anyway, so not really. I guess we do let her stay up a little later if we're outside doing something (which is often, esp on the weekends!)

  19. During the summer, it's "whenever mom and dad are getting tired and ready for bed" is the bedtime!

  20. Yes, I don't make them go to bed as early as during school. They pretty much go to bed around 10 pm on their own anyway.

  21. I still try to stick with the same time if we aren't busy doing something, but we tend to do more in the summer, so then they get to stay up a little later. My 7 month old doesn't like his routine messed up too much right now, so we aren't doing as much as we usually do and they have all been getting to bed on time pretty good this summer.

  22. My kids are 15 and 10...so they basically go to bed whenever and get up whenever.

  23. No kids yet but my sleep schedule always changed during the summer since I didn't have to wake up for school.

  24. No, but I am thinking about it because my daughter has really been fighting it lately. "But mom, it's still light out!!". 7:30 may be a titch early for the summer...

  25. Nope. My son goes to bed at the same time. He is only 2 though. I am sure when he gets older I will push it back a little in the Summer.

  26. When the kids where young yes later bedtime in the summer. Now they are grown with kids of their own and do the same thing.

  27. My girls go to bed at the regular time, due largely to the fact that they do not sleep later in the mornings, no matter when they go to bed. They tend to wake up with the sun, so they go to bed at 7:00 almost every night.

  28. My daughter is barely one, and she's just starting to get on a consistent schedule, so I haven't changed it for summer.

  29. For June and July, Mongoosine gets to set her own bedtime, reading or watching TV until either she gets tired or it gets on my nerves, and then it's lights out for her. This is prolly because I'm feeling lazy these days and don't want to pick one more argument when it doesn't matter what time she gets up, really.
In August we start adjusting back to the school year schedule, which this year will be earlier than last because this will be her first year riding the bus.
Snapdragon is going to pick his own schedule whether we like it or not.

  30. sometimes. but like you, it's not on purpose. 6 out of 7 nights a week, we are in bed on time. occassionally, we'll be running a bit late, but it's only 15 minutes. if a special event causes us to stay up late (fireworks on 4th of july) then we will.
