The first day of school. It can certainly be trying on parents. I mean, this is our baby that we are getting ready to send off to the relative unknown. Big Brother has been very excited about it all. We are extremely fortunate to be in a school district that has already given him 3 opportunities to spend some time in the building, meet the teachers and have some fun. And he has LOVED each of them. We were wondering, though, what exactly does Big Brother think about heading off to kindergarten? So, I asked him:
The first thing that comes to my mind that is exciting about school is having fun and seeing what the teachers are like... What it seems to me is that it's [all] only the fun stuff so it doesn't matter what fun stuff it is. But I'm really going to enjoy the playground and going to the room and doing fun stuff.
When I asked him what he thinks he might learn in school, he wasn't quite sure. He figured that in gym he would really just be, "climbing, running, jumping." He was pretty sure that in the library he would, "read books." And he did know that the teachers were going to be there "to help kids and learn stuff." What about homework? Big Brother has always enjoyed helping me out with my work. He always loved helping my wife out with her paperwork back in our daycare days. So what does he think about homework when I told him that teachers gave homework to help kids practice what they learned in school:
I'm feeling good about homework. The only thing I'm feeling bad about is just working instead of playing.
What a grand adventure it will be!
