Gibberish Improv

So, what most of you do not know is that when I was younger I was a theatre person. In high school I was VERY involved in my school's theatre program. I did any and all plays that came through. And I took several classes in the drama department. Both acting and stagecraft. I loved it. And one of my favorite things we did was improv. It was interesting and fun. One of the more interesting ones was the gibberish improv. During it we would be given a topic and we would have to create a scene in nothing but gibberish. Hand motions were acceptable but no real words. It worked best if the two people in the improv both knew and trusted each other.

Well, now that Big Sister is starting to talk and repeat words and sounds sometimes I find myself remembering those days of gibberish improv. I know her and she trusts me. So, we are able to communicate quite well. She says "Ca" and I know she means cup. She smacks the back of her hands together and I know she means more. She waves her arms up and down and I know that means she wants me to pick her up. I say "the duck says .... " and she responds with "quack quack." She does the same with cat, dog and we are working on cow.

Due to this our house walks around saying things like "quack, quack," "meoooow," "moooo," etc. Big Brother and I can often be found saying "quack, quack" and "quack, quack, quack, quack, uack" to each other. It is amusing. We are having whole conversations this way. All the while giggling away. We crack up and we have fun. It is funny.

And so, to my old drama teacher, Mr. Denike, who I am sure does not read blogs, I want to say thank you. Not only did your class give me self confidence. Not only did your class teach me how to trust myself and those I love. Not only did your class teach me that I had value and talent. It also taught me another way to relate to my children.

And just for fun - check out this video of my little girl and her cute voice telling you that the duck says quack. And yes, that is Hubby making up a new song with her. :)
