So, this past weekend, as most of you know, I went away. Saturday was a very long day. We left home at about 10:30am and did not arrive at our hotel until about 9pm. That is a very long day to be out and a lot of cloth diapers needed. How was I ever going to fit them all in my diaper bag? Even with my fancy shmancy new one. I could never fit the six to eight diapers I would need for an entire day like this. I started thinking that since the first five hours or so would be spent in the car I could bring two wet bags and have some diapers in the car and the rest in my diaper bag. It was getting complicated but it was all I could think of.
Until, I went to pack the bag that is. I went into the drawer where I keep Baby Sister's diapers and found my GroBabys. They would fit nicely. I could get a whole lot more of them in my bag without having to take anything out. And I was right I got all eight in my bag and did not have to remove anything. And look at how well the diaper matched her dress!!! :)
Okay, but do they work? That is what matters right? The simple answer is yes! They work beautifully. I do use the doublers when she is going to be sleeping or I am going to be unable to change her for several hours (like the four hour drive - just in case she slept the whole way). But I am not sure that was necessary. They are very absorbent and very trim. Two of teh features that are very important to me in a diaper.
So, what is a GroBaby and how does it work? Well, the shell (see pretty green above) is an outer piece, similar to a cover you might use with a prefold or a fitted. Then the inserts are simply snapped in. When that one is wet or soiled you simply unsnap it and snap in a new one. You can learn more or even buy one here. And if you feel at all confused go one and check out this cool tutorial.
All in all you NEED to add some GroBabys to your stash. They really are cool. And they apparently are a really cheap option - being one size and having inserts that can be replaced without changing the shell. Another mom wrote a break down of the savings which you can read here.
