So this week's Small Talk Six topic is six ways you are like or unlike your mother. It is an interesting topic really. I had to give it a bunch of thought but here goes.
1. I look like my mother. Plenty of people say I am the spitting image of her. Hubby adamantly disagrees with this. He does, however, concede the resemblance. My mom has four sisters (she is one of eight) and they all look alike and even Hubby agrees that I look like one of them.
2. I sound like my mother. We have very similar voices. When I was in high school many a time did a friend call up and start talking to my mother thinking she was me. And my Grandfather (my mom's dad) could not tell us apart (over the phone) to save his life.
3. My mother HATES to eat. She has said many times that if she could just take a pill to get rid of hunger and remain healthy she would. Me? If I could eat all day and not weigh 350 pounds I totally would. I LOVE to eat - especially snacking. :)
4. My mother finds a child (any child) crying to be almost painful. Now, I am not saying I like hearing kids cry (especially my own) but I do know that sometimes it is necessary. I get that if Baby Sister is overtired and crabby I might have to put her to bed and let her cry for a few minutes. She will fall asleep after 3 - 5 minutes and it is okay. Or if Big Brother is crying because I told him I did not like his behavior or I punished him that it is okay. That it is necessary and I am fine with it.
5. My mother hates to talk on the phone. So much so that if it is a choice between losing closeness with someone or talking to them on the phone she will lose out on the relationship. Granted I would rather have a face to face conversation but if I can't I do just fine with the phone. As a matter of fact when we were in college ( and he was here and I was in Florida) Hubby and I wracked up such high phone bills that I actually used to call on the phone and pay over the phone so I could talk to a customer service rep. Why did I do that? Because as long as I spoke to someone they would give me a $100 credit on my phone bill - monthly. Can you imagine?
6. And lastly my mother has trouble just typing in a website where as I am learning html code from Hubby.
Don't forget to head over to MomDot to see how everyone else compares to their moms. Happy Mother's Day!!!
