I am taking a break this week from my Thankful Sunday posts to tell this story. This counts as items one through ten on my Thankful list for the week. :)
Four years ago today we were called by our agency, EAC, to say that we had exited PGN (the big Guatemalan court that determines whether an adoption will happen or not) and that Big Brother was officially ours. We were in shock we had received pre-approval from the embassy (needed in order to enter PGN) on December first. Some people are in PGN for months. We were not expecting this phone call anytime soon. We, of course, were very excited about when this call would come but we expected to wait quite awhile longer.
The woman who called us was not our case worker as our case worker was out for the day but the agency people did not want us to wait. So, she called and Hubby answered the phone. She asked him to get me on another line as well. Which we could not do because we only have cell phones, but we held the phone between both of our ears (why we did not use speaker phone I have no idea we did not even think of that). And she said she was calling to tell us that we had exited PGN, our birth mother had signed off for the fourth and final time and Big Brother was officially, legally our son. Now we would have to file for his pink slip (the form from the embassy telling us we could come pick him up and they would issue his visa). We did not travel to Guatemala until January 11, 2005 but this was the best Christmas present we ever could have gotten. We were so excited and relieved that we were both crying. It was about 5pm when we got this phone call and it was without a doubt the best phone call of my life (although the phone call on January 7th to say we could pick him up was certainly a close second). I cannot wait until we get these moments again and this time we can share them with Big Brother and Baby Sister (although she will not care so much :)).
