Baby Carriers

Baby Sister and I just cannot seem to agree on the carrier that we should be using. I have grown to really hate the snugli in the last few weeks. With Big Brother I loved it. But he did not care to be put down the way Baby Sister does. He LOVED (and I cannot stress how much he loved) his Baby Einstein Activity Gym. He would lie there and play on that thing for hours. So, anytime I had to do anything I could just lie him on the gym and go about my business. Baby Sister is not like that. She wants to be held. Do not get me wrong I can put her down. She likes to sit in her highchair in the kitchen while I (or Hubby or Big Brother talk to her) , she likes to kick the bouncy seat and make it play music (a sill she has recently discovered) but sometimes none of that is good enough. Especially when it is time for me to cook lunch for the kids.
Lately I find the snugli more and more uncomfortable. Plus if I put her in it facing out she seems super wobbly. Hubby was complaining about how wobbly she felt when he was using it over the weekend. And he is right. I don't really have my arms free. I always seem to have one arm holding her in more securely. There is no way to make the parts around her tighter so I just don't know what to do.
So, we move to the ring sling. I love it. I find it WAY more comfortable than the snugli and she is not nearly as wobbly. She on the other hand does not seem to like it so much. She does not always want to be lying down but then she does not really like the way her legs need to be folded in order to be upright in there.
So, I have been looking into a wrap or a mei-tei. I have no idea which one I would want to try next. Both seem to have advantages. I like the fact that the wrap can be worn in multiple positions(including both lying down and upright) but how do I know if she will like it? Or if I will? All of these carriers can be very expensive and I have no real desire to spend a ton of money only to find out I bought the wrong thing (again). I found instructions on how to make a wrap (there are instructions of how to make your own ring sling too - at some point I may try that too - hopefully my next baby will like the ring sling), so I am considering doing that and trying it out but then I am nervous I will buy the wrong fabric ad she will fall out ad smack her head on the floor (I dropped my kid brother on his head once and I still have issues from it - but really he was two and I was ten and he lunged out of my arms). So, what do I try next. We really could use something. I will take any suggestions anyone might have. I have sent a request for help to one of my favorite babywearing, blogging mamas. Hopefully, she will send me some good advice.

  1. Have you tried a Tummy to Tummy carry in the ring sling? That is usually a baby's favorite- you can even keep her legs out by putting the sling securely underneath her bum. You might want to check out www.thebabywearer.com and the how to use your carrier links- they have all sorts of positions to try. Cradle hold was never my favorite. I do love the mei tai and it's a great one as they get older, too. Probably one that I use most often!
